General Conference-Saturday

One of my favorite weekends of the year… General Conference. Oh how I love hearing from our leaders. This conference was especially historic in that three new apostles were called: Elder Ronald A. Rasband, Elder Gary E. Stevenson and Elder Dale G. Renlund. I am excited to get to know them better.

There were so many spiritual insights and tidbits; however, here are some of my favorite take-away’s from today:

• We didn’t marry perfection, we married potential. (Elder Robert D. Hales)

• You are rich if you can live happily within your means. (Elder Robert D. Hales)

• We must be engaged in intentional parenting. (Bradley D. Foster quoting Boyd K. Packer)

• There is no darkness so dense, so menacing, or so difficult that it cannot be overcome by light. (Elder Vern P. Stanfill)

• Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot cure. (Elder Dallin H. Oaks)

• Be peaceful. Believe in God. Be faithful. You are doing better than you think you are. (Elder Jeffrey R. Holland)

The evening finished with my boys going to the priesthood session of conference. Love that Trevin wanted to go with the others even though he’s only eleven.

Only Em and I are left!

Hard to believe Niklas is on his way home. The last six weeks have flown by. We met at Gusti’s house (the coordinator and my friend) so everyone’s bags could be weighed and if needed…weight could be shifted from bag to bag. We said our goodbyes and headed on our way.

(Some of the other students Emalee grew to love. She asked if she could go home with them.  Um, no.)

Later in the afternoon, Andy took Trevin and his friend Evan to the annual Father and Sons campout. They’ll have a blast together.

Datenight for the old folks

I had the opportunity to babysit Elia this morning. She is from the cute Spanish family I mentioned about last week. Both Ignacio and Isabel had to work and needed help with Elia. She’s as cute as a button!

The afternoon brought brain balance appointment for Emalee, soccer practice for Trevin and shotgun shooting for Niklas with my neighbor in Park City.

We got a movie and snacks for the kiddos while Andy and I went to Hale Center Theatre and saw “Oklahoma”. We were gifted Val & Christine’s season tickets after Andy joined Murray Arts Council. Quite a treat indeed. In fact, it was the first time I’d seen “Oklahoma” (insert audible gasp….Andy did). It was well done. Just wish they gave you more leg room….

I have never cared about football….even Andy has only watched it a few times over the years (depending upon who makes it). Tonight we’re meeting up with family and I’m sure the boys will check the score as the girls chat!

Today was Fast Sunday so Jay and Jaron went together to do Fast Offerings after church.  They are so silly together (as you can tell).

Because we were super slackers and didn’t get up early to read scriptures, we did it after church.

Our day was filled with other things too.  I taught all four kids piano, made more phone calls for church stuff, filled out a spotlight questionnaire for Ashlyn for New Beginnings, went to a meeting for the Day of service coming up next week….and held Family Home Evening…..which avtually turned out well! (Happens sometimes)

{Introducing Bishop Ryan Davis}

image

Our family and Mimi slept at Paul’s condo before heading over to the Davis’ church.  The sacrament service was  beautiful…. I found myself tearing up quite a few times.  We stayed after sacrament meeting to see him get set apart.

image

Afterwards,  we all took a few snapshots and headed back to the Davis home for a lovely meal.  By 4:30 or so, we were all on the road and heading home.  Mimi and all my kids but Emmy went in her car as Emmy joined us for the drive home.  Ashlyn and Trev ended up falling asleep leaving Jaron the one in charge of keeping Mimi alert and awake to drive.  He did a good job.  Quite an eventful day.

{Work Christmas party}

Andy and I went out to dinner with two other employees and their spouse/date….and called it a work Christmas party.  Some years we get together and some years we don’t.

This year we went to Tepanyaki’s.  They cook your meal right in front of you and do silly things to make you laugh.

This was also the first time I can say I’ve eaten sushi.  I was open to try it and had wanted to try it for some time.  While I wouldn’t say it was bad, it was not my favorite either.

It was a very enjoyable evening. I enjoy any time I spend with Andy.

Date night with Jaron

Tonight Jaron wanted to go to the skateboard park and get some ice cream for his date night.  He wanted Trevin to come along to the skateboard park.  They had fun alternating between the skateboard and the scooter.  They both commented how bad the swearing was with the teens there and the smoking annoyed them.  They still had fun.

I dropped the boys back off at home and went on Elders Quorum Presidency visits.   Jaron and I then went to sub zero and Window shopping at Sports Authority.  He wanted to buy fishing stuff and we both eyed some guns.  Maybe we can pick up a BB Gun for Christmas this year.  Jaron asked why swearing is bad so he could explain to an inactive friend at school.   It was a nice evening.

Andy offered to help Ryan and Martina move into their new home in St. George.  Mimi and Opi have been taking care of their dog for the last month since Ryan and Martina have been living in their RV.  Sammy will hate the long drive but he will be thrilled to see his family again!  Be safe Ando!!!

Derek’s Wedding

Friday morning Trent, Jaron and I started out on our road trip to Oregon for Derek’s wedding.  We rented a car Thursday night so we could hit the ground running and get 40 mpg.  We had fun singing tunes all the way there and back and yhe treats were in plentiful supply thanks to mimi and Kristin.

We made good time on Friday and went and saw Iron Man 3 at a theatre near our hotel after we checked in.  That was nice and we were about a mile or so from the temple.   We went back to the outdoor mall where we saw the movie Saturday morning to catch some lunch before the wedding.  It was nice.

Jaron patiently waited at the Portland Temple visitors center for us. They had some great movies, interactive information and games for him. The actual ceremony was only fifteen minutes, but very nice.

Lots of beautiful pictures at the temple. From there we went to Olive Garden and had a wonderful dinner and visit with each other.

Kari’s daughter Vivian wasn’t a happy camper for pictures at the temple but I snuck this picture of the two of us in a good moment. We all enjoyed visiting for several hours. It was the first time I remember getting to visit with all my Christensen cousins as adults. Good getting to chat with each of them.

{And they’re off…..}

We got up this morning, read scriptures, gave Andy a haircut and then wished him a Happy Birthday.   Those birthdays roll around faster and faster!

In the above picture, Andy is cutting some oatmeal squares that his mom gave him to share with the kids before leaving.

Leaving where?   To Oregon.   Andy’s cousin (Derek Christensen) is getting married this weekend and so Andy, Trent and Jaron are going together.  He picked up the rental car last night so they’d be ready to go.

While I was outside taking the above picture, I noticed one of my flowers is blooming and it is simply beautiful.   I can’t tell you what it is, but I planted the bulb last year and was tickled to see it bloom. I think it is a bulb I got from Red Butte Gardens. I love it.

Pretty, huh????

Real Salt Lake Game with the Boys

image

Jaron, Trevin and I went to the Real Salt Lake game last night where they played the Chivas.  Trevins soccer league Razzia got to escort the team out, play a game at half-time on the field and march around the field in the parade of champions.  Trevin got to march in the parade and we all had a good time.

The league got a deal on tickets for $16 each, but I found some on ksl.com in the same section but a few rows from the front for $10 each.   Seats were great and the game was fun.   We rode the bus from the city hall which works out nicely.
