Jaron’s 15th birthday

I seriously cannot believe this kiddo is turning 15 years young today!  I love him more everyday.

I asked him what kind of cake he wanted and he said, I just want maple doughnuts. Soooo, your wish his wish was granted and he was to the moon and back that we got him a dozen just for him in addition to his gift.

He wanted to go to IHOP for dinner tonight.  He has always been a big breakfast fan.

Happy birthday Jer!

{Emmy’s birthday dinner…..}

Some Sunday’s are a marathon…today was one of them.  Between church, choir, tithing settlement, home teachers, birthday dinner and Andy’s solo in the Messiah tonight….it’s been a day.

Emmy was so excited to open her presents!  The dress was given to her by Martina’s family.  What a cute dress.

I made her a little tea set for her birthday….which she’ll enjoy.  My mom gave her her own set of scriptures embossed with her name and a carrying case.  She totes them to church and just loves them.  Mimi and Opi gave her some bedtime story CD’s which she was also excited about. We all love her.

Mimi, my mom and I ate dinner together but we were rushed. Andy has been practicing for weeks to perform in the Messiah. He was asked to do a solo and was pretty nervous about singing it at the tempo it was intended to be performed at. He didn’t need to worry…he did a great job! So proud of him. The kids were so hyper it was all I could do to stay until intermission. Hopefully next year we can stay for the whole program.

{Conference concludes – birthday celebrations}

General Conference really touched my heart this weekend.  It was nothing short of amazing!  Instead of conference packets for my children, I made them each a set of conference cash.

image

Each child had their own color cash so we didn’t try and steal…just saying.  Anyway, after each talk concluded, we paused it and Andy and I would ask them questions from their talk.  They didn’t have to take notes but they could use them if they did.  Jaron soon learned he got more money when he took notes.  He was able to answer more of our questions.

I took pictures of their notes because I found it fascinating. ..

Jaron’s notes:

Ashlyn’s notes:

Trevin’s notes:

image

Emalee didn’t take notes but she listened to everyone.  She colored her own pictures and played with Legos sometimes but she wad in the same room.  However, because she didn’t listen 100%, she didn’t get very much cash.   Instead, Trevin shared his cash with her so she could get a treat.  He did the same for Jaron later on.  How it makes my heart sing!

I have to say that in years past, the Spirit of conference would put us asleep.  That is when I realized we had to have a plan.  Our advanced preparations have helped us avoid that now for years.  However, there was a brief moment that I noticed Andy had fallen asleep and Emalee had put a Hallowwen decoration (spider) on his head.

image

It is certainly a rarity to catch this moment but I couldn’t resist.

Antway, I am so excited to read and study their talks again!!!  Each one was amazing in its own way.  Pure knowledge,  light and wisdom for our time.

After conference,  we headed over to Mimi’s to celebrate Opi and Parker’s birthday’s and to have dinner together.

Even Oma came to dinner.  It was good to see her.  She gave me a picture from her recent birthday celebration. …..

Before leaving, the boys gave Oma a priesthood blessing.  You should have seen all the kids’ faces when she removed her wig so they could annoint her head…especially Emalee and Keltie.  Their jaws were to the floor.  I guess none of them realized she wears wigs.  The blessing was beautiful and a teaching moment for all of us to remember to tap into the powers of heaven when needed.

It was a beautiful day.

Birthdays seem to come around faster and faster each year.  It’s hard to believe my oldest baby girl is 11!!!!!

I tried to make it a special day for her….I even took a treat in to her homeroom class at school.

Later in the evening we had a family party at our house.  It was wonderful getting to visit with family and seeing Ash shine with excitement.   Even Oma was able to attend!

Trevin and Andy  followed Jaron to Scout camp last night leaving the rest of us to make our own fun.  Vickie asked if we had any ice cream…and we didn’t…so that led us getting shakes and watching our favorite show, “Treehouse Masters”.

They arrived home mid morning while we were cleaning.  Vickie and I headed over to work on the parade float for a few hours.

Not too long after we all met at Mimi’s for a birthday celebration.  Today wad Martina’s birthday.  It has been a while since we’ve all been together for a meal, so it was nice  to catch up a little bit.

Tonight we headed over to the Kluse home to wish Alton a Happy Birthday!!!!  We were going to go and watch his baseball game but it was cancelled due to heavy rain.  We’ll have to go watch one of his games another night.
Ashlyn and Emmy constantly begged to hold Hazel.  She is such a doll.

We gave Alton a Hot Wheel set for his biryjdsy.  He especially loved it because most all of his other gifts were cash.  We helped him set it up before we left.  Happy Birthday Al!  We love you.

Prior to meeting with family for dinner, my day was filled with Ward conferences.  I am in the Stake Primary so I attended all the wards. It was a long day…but good.

{Spencer….a year older}

2013-04-03 23.37.34

Five years ago, Spencer joined our clan.  Five years.  Seriously??  It has come and gone like a snap of the fingers.

We got together tonight at Libby’s house for cake and ice cream.  She said she had a small birthday party for him earlier in the afternoon with some neighborhood friends and he wanted them to all go home.  He didn’t understand why they were there.  (It was the first “friends” birthday party he’s had.)  It wasn’t until they started singing Happy Birthday to him that he started to “get” what was happening.

Tonight, he climbed right up by me on the couch, took the present from me and said, “mine”.  I think he liked it….you never can quite tell.

Happy Birthday Spenc!

{Jaron’s 12th Birthday Party}

20130119_151252

I am such a broken record….where is time going?  Twelve years ago today this beautiful little boy made me a mother.  I will be forever grateful.  He can be so silly, so serious, kind, in charge, very smart, giving and funny!  This morning we let Jaron bring Jay Brimhall (his best friend) and Alton (favorite cuz) and Ashlyn and Trevin to a trampoline park (Emmy wasn’t old enough – that’s why she slept over at my mom’s house last night).  Anyway, they had a blast and there were no injuries, which is always good.  Later in the afternoon, we had a birthday party for him with the same group plus a friend from school, Kaleb.  They played Jaron’s favorite game (Uno Roboto) , played Wii Transformers game and watched a movie Jaron picked out, “Karate Kid”.  Jaron chose all of his favorite snacks and foods for the party….from his favorite chips and drinks to his favorite dessert (or at least one of many) – “Dirt Cups” (chocolate pudding, crushed Oreo’s and gummy worms on top).  Jaron even made a cute little sign for the front door saying, “Happy Birthday”.  I got lots of blue and silver balloons and put them around the house….balloons just make a birthday!

After the party was over, we all headed out to a restaurant Jaron chose….Golden Corral.  I think the reason he chose to eat there was simply because they have cotton candy….another favorite.  Happy Birthday Jer!  We love you.

{Happy Birthday Marissa!}

This day was long yet wonderful.  Mid-morning I received a knock on the door.  It was Jamie Bailey, our Primary President.  She had an invitation in hand for Jaron.  I wondered what it was for.  Then I realized it was for the Priesthood Preview.  Really?  I hadn’t even thought about it much but here was my reminder that Jaron would turn twelve in a couple weeks.  I got his appointment set up with the bishop after the Priesthood Preview.  The following Sunday he’ll be made a deacon.  I am happy for Jaron and for the opportunity he’ll have to serve others and hold the priesthood.  However, I’m also sad because he’s growing up.  {{Mommy Moment}}

Stake Conference was amazing today.  I sat and cried through most of it.  The Spirit just touched my heart and squeezed the tears right out of me.  One of my favorite parts of conference was the Men’s choir.  Wow!  All of their musical numbers were BEAUTIFUL!  One of my favorite moments was when they sang the closing number, “This is the Christ”.  Emmy was sitting on my lap and she could see the conductor of the choir quite well from our seat and could see how “in to it” he was.  So, she started swinging her arms imitating his every move.  She has done this on other occasions as well.  At first I let her do it but when she nearly whacked me in the face, I gently put her arms down and within seconds they were back up again with gusto.  As the number concluded the gentleman seated behind me leaned forward and said, “She’ll make a fine conductor one day.”

After conference I came home and wrote the missionaries…all seven of them.  I try and write them regularly simply because I remember how much it meant for me to receive a letter from…well, anyone.

Later in the afternoon, I met with Carol Higginson.  I was called to replace her in the Stake Primary Presidency as the secretary.  She asked to be released after having had her first baby.  She also finished nursing school at the same time.  Anyway, I met with her to learn more of my duties and to get some of her files and paperwork.  I also enjoyed visiting with her and her husband and meeting her son, Ben.  I will miss working with her.

We finished off the evening at Mimi’s house to have Sunday dinner and to celebrate Marissa’s birthday together.  It was very enjoyable…as usual.  We gave Marissa a Barbie Veterinary bag.  The dog (which is sooooo soft) comes with all the things you would need to help it when it becomes sick.  Mimi and Opi gave her a Mulon fan (it’s what she wanted more than anything else).  Happy Birthday Marissa!

{Becoming.}

While the day, in and of itself was busy, it was a good day.  Xina returned home from Fillmore for Christmas break (Xina is our foreign exchange student).  Emalee and I also attended Marissa’s 7th birthday party which was a carnival.  I was in charge of the face painting and I have very (very) limited skills.  The first child wanted a butterfly.  The second child wanted a sunset.  The next child wanted a peacock.  I told him I was terrible at peacocks and is there ANYTHING else that I could do instead.  He replied, “How about a lizard?”  I said, “I could do a snake.  That’s KIND of like a lizard.”  He agreed and then asked that it go over his nose, which I did.  Then, a couple more boys wanted a snake too!  Everyone had a good time and even enjoyed the magician at the end of the show.  The Davis family showed up at the end, so it was fun to visit with them.  We don’t get to see them very often…..

My mom came over at 7:00 p.m. to watch our kiddos while Andy and I attended the adult session of Stake Conference.  Andy had been asked to give the opening prayer for this session, so we couldn’t be late.  The meeting was so wonderful and inspired.  Everyone’s talks were great but I felt that all of them had a common thread or theme…..the word “become” or “becoming”.  The first speaker (the matron of the Jordan River Temple) shared some of her trials and struggles through life and what she learned from them and why it’s important to endure to the end (or in other words continuing to “become”).  The next speaker was a gentleman who was recently called to be a second counselor in  a newly called bishopric within our stake.  He was called about six weeks ago.  He shared how when he was called to serve, he wasn’t worthy.  He drank coffee and had some concerns.  He knew however that the Lord had called him and so he qualified himself  (or in other words, he “became”).  A member of the Stake Presidency (President Gale) spoke next and discussed the natural man.  He emphasized how Mosiah 3:19 says we need to “becometh” a saint.  Others spoke as well; however, I felt that all of them shared how we can “become” perfect….how we can “become” like Him…..day by day….one step at a time.

The visiting area seventy, Elder Tate, shared some amazing statistics with us tonight.  He said:

-In the next month or so, there will be 80,000 full-time missionaries serving!  [There were 53,000 missionaries serving prior to the October announcement.]
– On January 13th (next week), there will be 2,000 SISTER missionaries in the MTC [the most ever at one time].
– Usually, two of the twelve apostles would sit down each week in front of the computer and issue mission calls.  Since the October announcement in General Conference, SIX apostles (half of the quorum of the twelve) now have the assignment to issue mission calls.

I also read the following information tonight when I got home:

– The missionary force could add 15,000 young men and 7,500 young women or more in the first year of the lower age requirements.  That could impact overall church membership significantly.  On average stats show that each missionary is responsible for five converts annually.  With our missionary force growing so quickly, it could bring 400,000 members into the Church in a single year.

After Stake Conference, Andy and I headed to teh grocery store to grab a few things.  When we got to the checkout, we realized neither of us had our wallets.  Andy had to go home and get money while I browsed and
waited.  I found these funny plaques in a gift section.  They made me smile.

Saturday – Take 5

We let Emalee choose whatever restaurant she wanted for her birthday dinner.  All the kids look forward to this birthday choice.  She chose, “Mimi’s Cafe”.  When we arrived for dinner they were swamped.  They said it would be at LEAST an hour wait.  So I phoned the rest of the crew and let them know there was no need to rush.  After about 45 minutes, the manager came to me and said, “I am sorry for the miscommunication but it is going to be a considerable longer wait than originally quoted…..unless you would consider using three booths right next to each other.  Would that be okay?”  So we all got cumfy and cozy in three different tables.

Alton, Jaron, my mom, John and Liberty sat at a table together (you can see them in the photo below):

Opi, Trevin, Andy and Mimi sat at this table.

Me, Emalee, Amelia and Ashlyn (not pictured here) sat at this table together.

The food was great and the manager was very kind to us.  When she learned we were celebrating Emalee’s birthday and that she had chosen to come to their restaurant, she pampered her.  She brought her a HUGE hot chocolate – which our whole table shared.  She even told her she could order any dessert on the house, which Emmy declined because she was so full.  They always have good food but family is always better!
