First day of school….

Trevin and Emalee were both bright-eyed and bushy tailed this morning. They were excited to start a new school year, see their friends and meet their new teachers.

I picked both of them up from school and we headed to Em’s Brain Balance appointment . On the way there, they both proceeded to tell me about their day. It dawned on me how much I love picking them up and having those few moments with them after school each day.

Later in the evening, Trevin had soccer practice at Grant Elementary. At the same time, Andy and Emalee went to Tae Kwon Do. Fall is back in full force!

Jaron on the other hand got to go to the Copenhagen, Denmark temple today.  Lucky guy!

{My week in a nutshell…}

Since life has been too crazy to blog…I will attempt to catch up in one post (in no particular order).

Last Saturday was the Stake Relief Society day of service.  I was in charge of the nursery and making sack lunches for The Road Home.  With the help of several sisters we made 450 or so sack lunches foe the homeless.  It was one of many projects going on.  I was so grateful that Christine was there helping.  She took charge when I left to take the first set of lunches over. She also helped me out by taking me home a little early because I felt so sick.  Oh my goodness, I was soooo miserable. I’m glad everything else went well.

So, Emalee got strep from Jaron. We went in to the doctor and while she and I were waiting for him to come in the  the room, I looked down to see Emalee had chosen to wear her soccer shoes. She cracks me up.Never a dull moment with her around.

Round three was only a few more days away when Ashlyn woke up a sore throat. Took her to the doctor and guess what? Yep, it’s strep.  Boo!

I’ve been baking a bit more lately.  My mom loves carrot cake so I made some cream filled carrot cake muffins. They turned out good as well as some lemon raspberry muffins.

I’ve been spending a lot of time this week at the temple.  More about that later.

{Someone’s a little excited…..}

I bought some Christmas tree cookies for Emmy to take to school to celebrate her birthday.  To say she was excited is an understatement.  It will be a good day.  Haapy birthday sweet Em.

{Let the Valentine-making begin}

image

image

image

One of the best parts of Valentine’s is making your own.  Each of my kids like to approach Valentine-making in their own special way.  They also decide on a treat or small trinket to include in their envelopes.  Jaron’s Valentine holder is ready to go.  He msde it completely out of Legos and at the top edge of the container it spells out LOVE using Lego pieces….pretty creative.

{100 days of school}

2013-02-06 19.06.07

Today was the 100th day of school and Emalee was asked to bring 100 things to school (Skittles) and to dress like she was 100 years old.  If I had more time, I would have tried to find a house dress and a bathrobe, but alas, time got the best of me.  She made a great 100 year old.

I love this picture Emalee drew of herself at 100 years old and how she wrote,”Emalee Day pichre”.

{Gumballs, BUG lunch and snowballs in trees}

2013-02-01 13.13.27

Trevin did it.  He passed off all of his multiplications up to 12.  In fact, he was the fastest out of everyone in his class and so he got to choose a prize.  Not just any prize, but “the” coveted gumball machine.  He was thrilled out of his mind and SO excited to tell me about it….AS SOON as he got in the car.  It was cute.

Emalee wasn’t going to be out-shined.  She informed me her teacher had selected her to go to B.U.G. lunch (an acronym for “Been unusually good”.  Once a month a teacher will select a child for B.U.G. lunch and that child will go to the principle’s office for lunch….food donated by local businesses.  She and some other students will get B.U.G. lunch this coming Monday.  Good job Em!

After the kids got home from school, they decided to have another snowball fight.  This time they really got creative.  Ashlyn decided to use the neighbors house as her “base”.  She would try and make the snowballs really fast and store them in the neighbors tree to get a stockpile going.  I never would have thought to do that….

Pretty creative, huh?

{School Christmas Program – Emmy}

2013-01-01 20.41.22

We were told Emmy’s Christmas program started at 9:00 a.m.  I arrived at 8:30 and barely got a seat!  Mimi was able to join me so we chatted until the program began.  I had NO idea that her grade was only going to be singing two songs.  I wish I would have video recorded her singing but even if I had I couldn’t see her from where I was sitting.  I will do better next time and get there an hour early!!!  By the way, what I love about this picture is that Emalee chose to wear this dress along with her polka dot boots!!  It’s so Emmy.

{Emmy’s Family}

Emalee came home from school today with this picture she had drawn of her family, or so I thought.  As I studied the family of seven girls with no arms and blue eyes, I wondered who-was-who.  Come to find out, she didn’t draw her family.  She drew her friends.  So which one is Emalee?  The blonde one in the middle.  Too funny!!

Another school year has begun and all the kids are excited.  Ashlyn went to bed dressed…practically ready to go.  Jaron was excited but in a different way than Ashlyn.  I could barely get him to smile, the kid is so serious.  Andy gave everyone a priesthood blessing last night, which we all look forward to.  I’m so grateful for him and all he does for our family.

Jaron – Mrs. Clayton
Ashlyn – Mr. Schneider
Trevin – Ms. Russell
Emalee – Mrs. Madamiri

{Hogle Zoo Field Trip with Emmy}

Today I accompanied a million Kindergarten children to the zoo.  It was hot, tiring and fun.  While on the bus, I couldn’t even hear myself think because of how loud they were…seriously!  There were around 80 of us on the bus and no air conditioning.  Okay, now that the whining is over with, I really did have fun. My group of children were so cute.  I had an all girl group and they all wanted to hold my hand.  We enjoyed seeing the animals but some of the biggest attraction-type animals were missing.  No elephants.  No giraffes.  One rhino. One ape.  Lots of reptiles but most of the bigger animals were gone.  Was it a bad day to go or are they gone?  I don’t think the kids knew otherwise, but I was sad to not see them there….they MAKE the zoo!  On the bus ride home, Emmy and I were talking and she said, “This is the first time I’ve been on a bus.”  My first thought was to tell her no…but after thinking about it, it just might have been her first hot, humid bus ride.  Oh the memories of the big yellow bus.  :  )

{Teacher Appreciation Day}

Today was Teacher Appreciation Day at the kids’ school.  I volunteered to help decorate Emalee’s classroom door for her teacher and take over her class for 45 minutes so she and the other teachers could have an extended lunch.  I took of picture of Emalee (above) sitting in line waiting for me to take her and her friends down to class.  Parents drop off their children at the office each day and they line up there and walk to class.  I have volunteered several times this year in Emalee’s classroom and it is magical to see the twinkle in her eye when she knows I’m coming to HER class!  It’s really cute.

I decorated Mrs. Session’s door with a mint theme and put lifesavers and chocolate mints on the door.  Then I made lifesaver handouts that each child signed and wrote a message to Mrs. Session’s.  I think it turned out cute.  It was very simple compared to the other classroom doors, but that’s okay.
